As a club, COMAST relies on the hard work and dedication of volunteers across numerous roles. If you would like to learn more about volunteering at COMAST please contact the relevant person below.
Team Managers
Team Managers are the team behind the team – they play a vital role in supporting swimmers at meets and on camp. Our Team Managers help foster a positive and encouragin atmosphere on poolside and ensure the safeguarding of our swimmers on race day.
Our Team Managers are responsible for coordinating swimmers on event day, ensuring our swimmers know where they need to be and when, so they can be prepared and fully race ready. They help coaches by managing withdrawals, relays, and poolside behaviour, acting as the main point of contact for swimmers, allowing our coaches to remain completely focused on athlete performance in the pool.
Whether it’s celebrating personal bests, keeping swimmers motivated between races, or helping everything run smoothly behind the scenes, Team Managers are an essential part of every successful competition team.
If you believe you could be our next outstanding Team Manager, please contact welfare@cityofmanchesterswimteam.co.uk for more details.

Meet Volunteers and Officials
Meet Volunteers
COMAST Meets wouldn’t be possible without the help and support of our volunteer team. From marshalls to catering, every role is as important as the next, and all help to provide the complete package of support that enable our meets to run smoothly.
There are a wide variety of roles available, both on and off poolside, with more volunteers and more varied roles required for our flagship Manchester International Swim Meet. For more information on volunteer roles, please contact chair@cityofmanchesterswimteam.co.uk or look out for our volunteer recruitment emails before every home meet.
Officials
Without officials, our meets simply could not run. They are the backbone of every competition, and are a requirement for us to meet Swim England’s Licenscing Criteria and maintain the integrity of the competition.
There are a variety of officiating positions available at each meet, with roles being handed out by the Lead Referee depending on each officials level of qualification.
You will start your journey as a J1T, shadowing qualified officials whilst you gain your J1 qualification, which will allow you to act as an Inspector of Turns, Chief Timekeeper, and Chief Inspector of Turns. Once experienced, you will have the oppurtunity to develop through the ranks to J2, Starter, and eventually Referee.
If you have a desire to uphold the integrity of the sport at COMAST meets, or meets you attend away from the Manchester Aquatics Centre, please contact meetmanager@cityofmanchesterswimteam.co.uk

Young Volunteers
At COMAST, our athletes play a crucial role as volunteers at the club. Whether it’s members of the National and ProSquads acting as Timekeepers for our Rising Stars Series, or our Junior Pathway swimmers acting as kit carriers at our Manchester International Swim Meet and Winter Qualifiers, our swimmers contribute.
Swim England North West also runs a Young Volunteer Award aimed at swimmers aged 14-17 who want an introduction into all aspects of swimming, including volunteering at meets, club governance, and coaching/teaching. The award aims to provide junior athletes with an overview of the different pathways available to them once they hang up their goggles, and assists in the development in transferable skills that will be helpful in further education and employment.
If you think we could help you or your swimmer complete the Young Volunteer Award or the Duke of Edinburgh Award, please contact enquiries@cityofmanchesterswimteam.co.uk
